Revelation – Chapter-19

4.  The marriage of the Lamb completed: (19:7-10):   The bride, of course, is the church (2 Cor. 11:2; Eph. 5:22-33); and Jesus Christ, the Lamb, is the Bridegroom (Jn. 3:29). At a wedding, it is customary to focus attention on the bride; but here, it is the Bridegroom who receives the honour! “Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to Him.”

  • Jewish weddings in those days were quite unlike weddings in the Western world. First, there was an engagement, usually made by the parents when the prospective bride and groom were quite young. This engagement was binding and could be broken only by a form of divorce. Any unfaithfulness during the engagement was considered adultery. When the public ceremony was to be enacted, the groom would go to the bride’s house and claim her for himself. He would take her to his home for the wedding supper, and all the guests would join the happy couple. This feast could last for a week.

Here also we see the similar things happening.  The entire heavenly chorus is encouraged to rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, because all the preparation is complete and the time for the marriage of the Lamb has come.

  • Betrothed in eternity past, presented in the Father’s house since the rapture, the church is now ready for the wedding ceremony to begin. It will coincide with the start of the millennial kingdom and stretch throughout that 1000 year period, finally consummated in the New Heaves and the New Earth (21:1-2).
  • In the New Heavens and the New Earth, the bride will include “the redeemed of all ages” besides the Church and New Jerusalem will become the bridal city (21:1-2).  The bride has made herself ready in the power of God, by the grace of God, through the work of the Spirit of God (Phil. 2:12-13), purged from all sin and impurity and has become blameless and spotless. She has put on expensive beautiful cloth which is the righteousness of Jesus.
  • Further those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb are blessed (the 4th beatitude), they are the O.T. believers (Matt. 8:11, Lk.13:28) Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the prophets, the heroes of faith mentioned in (Heb.11),  all the tribulation saints, glorified and still alive on earth and entering the millennial kingdom.
  • There will be no second-class citizens in God’s kingdom. For God will be in personal fellowship with every believer

The Apostle was astonished and with his uncontrolled tremendous emotions, he thoughtlessly fell on the feet of the angel, but the angel lifted him up and said, “I am also a fellow servant like you.  Do not do that, reminding him that only God deserves the worship.

The glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ:  (19:11-21):

The Second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ distinct from the rapture of the church.

Rapture of Church 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ
Takes place prior to the 7-year tribulation.  Christ comes for  His saints (Jn. 14:3, 1 Thes. 4:16-17) He comes with raptured believers (the church).
Christ meets His saints in the air He descends with them from heaven to earth (Zech.14:4)
There is no judgement at the time of rapture (Jn. 14:1-3; 1 Thes. (4:13-18) Judgement plays a prominent role in the second coming (19:11,15)
There are no signs and wonders except a great lightning. Signs and wonders follow, viz, darkening of sun and moon.
