HOLY TRINITY
Prayer
Heavenly Father, in your Son Jesus Christ is hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Enlighten our minds by your Holy Spirit and grant us that reverence and humility without which no one can understand your truth, through the same Jesus our Lord. – Amen Calvin’s Trinitarian Prayer.
The Doctrine :
- The Teaching of the ‘Trinity’ is the foundational teaching of the Christian faith. All other teachings flow from this teaching.
- Our God is a Triune – 3 in 1; thus, we say 3 “Persons” in 1 God
- The 3 “Persons” of the Trinity are separate but equal.
- The Doctrine of the Trinity is strictly monotheistic (one God).
- The doctrine of the Trinity is clearly founded in scripture — each has a will, each speaks and each is called ‘God’.
- We can only believe in the Trinity through the light of faith (the gift of faith).
- Creation gives us glimpses as to how God can be three in one (Some examples are
1) Fire (which contains Flame, Light and Heat) ,
2) Clover (which has 3-leaflets interconnected),
3) Musical chord (three note one the chord) etc.).
Doctrinal Basis of UESI:
The unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.
“In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.” John 1:1
And the WORD was made flesh and dwelt among us.” John 1: 14.
Perhaps the best example of the Trinity is found in creation.
- “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made… (Rom. 1:20).
How the Trinity is derived from Scripture: ?
- We see in the Old Testament, scripture that demonstrate a plurality concerning God.
- “Then God said, ‘Let Us (ELOHIM) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…’” (Gen. 1:26).
“And a mighty wind swept over the waters…” — Genesis.
- The Baptism of Jesus: We see the Trinity at work: (Matt.3:13-17)
- Baptismal formula: Go ye…. (Matt.18:19)
- Benediction: The grace of the Lord……. (2 Cor.13:14).
