2 Timothy-Chapter-4

Final greetings: (4:22)

As comes to the end of his final letter (the last letter -total 12 letters), he could look back with gratitude towards God.  It was the time pass on the torch to the next generation. The last words  of Paul reflect a man who simply loved Jesus and had received His grace.  He urges Timothy to continue to teach the life changing message of Jesus Christ.  Timothy was Paul’s living legacy, a product of Paul’s faithful teaching.

What a wonderful  letter it is? Paul had fulfilled his ministry and was fully ready to receive his reward and he wanted Timothy to do the same. The “Amen” in (4:18c) speaks that Paul invited Timothy to affirm all his saying.

What can we learn from 2 Timothy:

  1. Paul has mentored young Timothy despite timothy’s timidity, lack of self control.  Paul had seen a great leadership in Timothy’s life.
  2. As parents, grand-parents we should pass on our legacy of faith to our children.
  3. The letter brings us face to face how we should react when faced with death. Despite death is staring upon Apostle Paul, his might was not dwelling on the injustice meted to him, instead, he was trusting God, where God wanted him to be.
  4. In the face of death, fully convinced that he would not come down, he continues to encourage his young protégé to take his mantle and continue to work which Paul had started.
  5. This letter reminds us where our thoughts linger when we come to the end of our days or facing an inevitable death. May the Lord help us to be bold and strong in faith in these last days.
