The Great white throne judgement: (20:11-12):
This is the last courtroom scene. The judge i.e. the Lord Jesus Christ is sitting along with the Father on the throne. All the unsaved who have ever lived will be resurrected to face the trial and judgement. There will be no debate, no advocate, no defence. The convicting evidence will be presented with no rebuttal or cross-examination. Many people escape judgement every year, many crimes are not even known to authorities. But here no one will be able to escape from this judgment.
Though the Father and Son are sitting on the throne, the Son judges all the sinners. All the accused standing before Him. The white symbolizes purity, holiness and justice. The verdict handed down by the Judge will be absolutely just.
The Apostle John says: “from His presence earth and heaven fled away.” This incredible statement describes the “un-creation” of the universe. The earth will have been reshaped by the devastating judgements of the tribulation, but restored during the millennial kingdom. Yet it will be tainted with sin and therefore it must be destroyed. In its place God will create a “a new Heaven and new Earth”(21:1). God’s un-creationof the universe is given in (2 Pet. 3:10-13)
Facing the Judge, all the great and small, the dead resurrected from their graves. The accused include all the wicked and sinful people. God will summon from its depths all who perished in the sea, all who got burnt, all who are already being tormented in the hades or Abyss, ( the entire hades is emptied up) and all who are buried in the graves from the beginning of the human history, will be fitted with new bodies and queue up as accused to be sentenced before the Lord Jesus.
