- Reaching to others: The next 3-graces are reaching out to others. They are Patience, kindness and Goodness.
- Patience: It is the quality of forbearance under provocation (2 Cor. 6:6). It entertains no thoughts of retaliation even when wrongfully treated.
- Kindness: It is benevolence in action such as God demonstrated toward men. Since God is kind toward sinners ( Rom. 2:4; Eph. 2:7) a believer should display the same virtue.
- Goodness: It may be thought of both as an uprightness of soul and as an action reaching out to others to do good even others do not
- General conduct of a believer: When the believer is led by the Spirit, he or she displays these 3-virtues viz, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control.
- Faithfulness: It is the quality which renders a person trustworthy or reliable, like the faithful servant in (Lk. 16:10-12.
- Gentleness: It marks a person who is submissive to God’s Word, and who is considerate of others when discipline is needed (gentle in 1 Cor. 4:21; Eph. 4:2); gentleness in (Col. 3:12; 1 Pet.3:16).
- Self-control: The word is used in the NT (5:23, Acts 24:25; 2 Pet.1:6) denotes self-mastery and no doubt, they relates to curbing the fleshly impulses. Such a quality is impossible to attain apart from the power of God’s Spirit. As a final summary statement Paul affirmed that there are no prohibition, in other words there is not a law against such virtues. In this way he asserted that obviously no one would make laws against people who practice such things.
God is interested in every part of our lives, not just the spiritual part. As we live by the Holy Spirit’s power, we need to submit every aspect of our lives to God i.e. emotional, physical, social, intellectual, vocational and etc. Because we are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, we must live like this. Paul says: let us not be conceited or live in false pride or provoking life or envying each other, but encouraging one another with love displaying God’s virtues through His grace. “Whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things” (Phil.4:8).
