3) COMMISSION:
Evangelist work is not an occupation. It is a vocation or call. The church’s first foreign Evangelists were Paul and Barnabas. Paul was a highly educated man. Barnabas was a good man filled with Holy Spirit. God equips the one He calls, he may first call you, then equip you or in His providence equip you and then call you to become a Missionary or an Evangelist. The early Disciples Peter, James, John come in the first category & Paul, Moses come in the second category. Theological and Academic training for an Evangelist or Missionary in a seminary or Bible college is good. If such opportunity does not exist, learn the hard way of
Mary’s Institution, at the feet of the Lord Jesus Christ. Ill-equipped Evangelists and Missionaries have done more harm than good in Asia and the world.
4. CONSECRATION:
Simply means cleanliness. Biblically it is setting apart.
- A surgeon if used dirty or infected surgical instruments in an operation, runs the risk of losing the patient. So also an Evangelist who is not set apart, whose life is not clean, runs the risk of losing many such precious souls for whom our Christ died. 2 Tim.2:20
- You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify in your body 6:19, 20.
– Be clean ye that bear the vessels of the Lord. Iss.52:11.
- Rules for Holy living 3:1-17.
- Consecration comes by Word of God and Prayer. 4:5.
COMPASSION:
This is one of God’s most outstanding qualities.
- He was burning with passion for others.
- Jesus moved with compassion, when he saw the dusty multitudes, who are tired and everywhere.
- Jesus wept over Jerusalem. He cried aloud in deep passionate grief.
- The soul compassion urged Jesus to walk up to Calvary.
Let us remember that no price is too heavy when we consider the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died. For it is here that we receive our vision, our strength to proclaim the glorious Gospel which is the power of God for the Salvation of everyone who believes.
6 . Perseverance:
- No other work requires so much patience and perseverance. (Matt. 10:22, Gal. 6:9).
- People are not won for Christ in a day.
- Whether he succeeds or fails, he would continue to seek out one after another.
7 Hope:
- He who has a conviction will reap in due season.
- He hopes that there are so many honest seekers.
- The more he sows, the more he reaps.
- God will reward for all his labour (1 cor. 15:58; Heb. 11:6).
8 Practical knowledge of the word of God:
He must know the Bible thoroughly, how to use it to produce faith, conviction and conversion.
- The successful personal worker is always working. (Jn. 9:34)
- This world is not a time of rest for the Lord’s servants. (1 cor. 15:34; Eph. 5:14; Rom. 13:11)
- Individual Christians share Christ with their families and acquaintances and bring them to the evangelistic event. Therefore, personal and mass evangelism are complementary as sowing the seed and harvesting are complementary.
- Regardless of the method used to reach people, a passion for souls is the critical factor for personal evangelism. Personal evangelism is fire in the soul.
- It is not brow beating, arm twisting and manipulating people with the gospel.
- It is a free, unhindered flow of the gospel from the life of a Christian to a lost person.
- God is calling Isaiah (Isa. 43:10-12) to be the PE worker: “You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen”…I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed–I, and not some foreign god among you. “You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God.”
