It was revealed by the Holy Spirit: (2:9-12):
It is true that we cannot comprehend the glory of heaven and what God has kept in store for us, but we can certainly hope and taste a bit of what is going to come. God is going to create a new heaven and new earth, the present earth will be reserved for fire. We will live with Him for eternity. These are the things which are to take place in the future. Before the life and ministry of Jesus, God’s people had a vague understanding of the glory of His work and what it would do for His people. But they really didn’t fully understand it ahead of time. Yes it is true that no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Knowing the wonderful and eternal future that is awaiting us gives us hope and courage to live godly life in this world and endure the hardship and persecutions because all these persecutions are momentary when compared with Cross of Calvary through which God is giving us eternal life. That’s why Paul says: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” (2:9). Further Paul says: “the deep things of God” refers to God’s unfathomable nature and God’s wonderful plan for the mankind through the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus’ resurrection has given us the power over death and sin. Through His death and resurrection, we have received the free gift of Salvation and all those who believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.
By accepting Him as our personal Saviour, we have received His Spirit i.e. the Holy Spirit, so that we can understand God’s plan for our lives. The world cannot understand it. Even the wisest person in this world cannot comprehend the glories of God which would ultimately be given to mankind because we are the children of God and co-inheritors with Christ. Yes the best part of it yet to come. Yes on the White Throne Judgement God is going to reward you in the full house of audience, something you cannot comprehend. The entire audience gives you a standing ovation for the sacrifice you have done for the furtherance of the Gospel.
It was accomplished through Jesus Christ: (2:13-16);
Paul authoritatively speaks and says his words are not of human mind or spirit, but the Holy Spirit taught him. He was not merely giving his opinion but he is under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Here Paul gives a contrast of what natural man and the Spiritual man:
Natural man | Spiritual man |
Natural man where all life start, the life inherited from Adam, un-regenerated and unsaved man | For a Spiritual man life starts from born-again experience. He is saved from eternal hell. |
He does not receive the things of the Spirit of God. | He receives the things of what God has promised. |
He doesn’t want things of God but regards them as foolishness. He cannot discern the spiritual things. | The message of God is a power to them. He draws the strength from it. He discerns the spiritual things and live accordingly. |
He is unsaved, refuses to think spiritually. Many so called Christians behave in this manner. | He is saved from eternal destruction. He judges all things and he himself is not subject to them. Yes one day all the believers reign with Christ. |
He has no mind of the Lord. | A spiritual man thinks what Christ wants because he wants to please God all the time. He has God’s mind. |
